Pablo Emilio Iturralde Baquero, higher education in the specialty “Engineer-designer” of the Faculty of Automobiles and Tractors (Moscow State Technical University MAMI, Dean of Transport Faculty, Director of Engineering Development Center).

I have always been a motor sport fan and wanted to get developed in this particular direction. As a child I dreamed of constructing a car of my own and already then imagined myself a racer. My dream came true during studies at MAMI on the specialty “Automobiles and tractors”. Then, together with a group of students with initiative, we designed and built from scratch the first car for “Formula Student”.

At that moment it was a revelation for Russia. I graduated from MAMI in 2009, and already in 2015 I became Dean of the Transport Faculty and Head of the educational program “Sports Vehicles”. Besides, I am an ideological tutor of the “FDR Moscow” and “Smart Moto Challenge Polytech” teams.

Education in our university gives a systematic approach. I arrived at this conclusion, acting as a judge at the competitions “Formula Student”, held in Germany. Our student is a priori capable of solving much more tasks, than his foreign colleague. The systematic approach of a Russian engineer is a genetic prerequisite, he simply cannot act in another way. A Russian person cannot be trained according to a European scheme, it will simply seem boring. That is why we are introducing new training formats – in fact, giving children the soil for growth.

As far as the development of automotive industry is concerned, I can say that evolution has gone a huge way which started with invention of a wheel. To my mind, the next stage will be an active introduction of self-driven, or, maybe, as well, flying cars. The appearance of these vehicles will lead to a revolution in our lives. I think it is very important to develop creative abilities of young engineers in various spheres of activity in order to implement the ideas in a proper way. That will allow all of us to make a giant technological leap in development and give our country and all of us a chance for a successful future.
